The Theory of Everything - Movie Review

http://blogs.scientificamerican.com/cross-check/theory-of-everything-brilliantly-dramatizes-paradox-of-modern-science/

Oh my gosh! The feels that come along with this movie. Over the years, I have watched a lot of movies but this one, is by far, a favourite! Below, I have linked the trailer as the trailer itself is amazing!

Watching the trailer, you know that it will be deeply moving, sad and even a little bit humorous. The movie lived up to this and even surpassed it. The Theory of Everything is one of the saddest, yet inspiring movies I have ever watched. The whole week after watching it I couldn't talk about Stephen Hawking without crying or tearing up!

For any of yous that do not know about Stephen Hawking, he is an English theoretical physicist (amongst other things) who won awards for his theories of cosmology, quantum physics and relativity. At a young age, whilst dating the love of his life, he was diagnosed with motor neuron disease. Over short amounts of time, the neurons in his body stopped firing and began to die, severely deteriorating his body. The sad thing about this disease is that the brain works perfectly fine in a body that doesn't work anymore - you are literally trapped with hardly any way of communicating. At some stage in Hawking journey, he developed pneumonia and had to have an operation that left him unable to speak. A machine was built for him that enabled this and even though slow, he managed to communicate with those around him and he continued to work. Doctors predicted that he had two years maximum to life but he defied the odds and has lived to the ripe age of 74! He is unable to move any part of his body, other than a tiny muscle in his cheek which he uses to type what he wants to say in the machine - it is absolutely amazing!

Anyways, the movie - stop getting sidetracked Bec! As a whole, the movie was very beautifully made and was very full on. It follows the life of Stephen Hawking along with his marriages and the birth of his children. I feel like the moral of the story is to never lose hope and to keep persevering; many actual quotes of Hawkings are referenced to throughout the movie which adds a nice and realistic touch to the overall movie.

This quote is one of my favourites from the movie - it is so inspiring as even though Hawking lives a very different life to those around him, he still worked hard and pursued his dreams. The movie appeals to every single person in some way shape or form:
  • to those parents who work so hard their partner is left to raise their kids
  • to those people who are struggling and need the motivation to keep going
  • to those people who feel they are not in control in their lives
  • and many, many more!
In life, many people at one stage or another, lose perspective and motivation. I am one of those people - I watched this movie in one of my 'down' periods and it gave me A LOT to think about! No amount of typing will ever do this movie justice - I highly recommend you watch this movie! It will change your life for the better!
 Sidenote:
Although still alive, Hawking gives motivation talks every so often. In between doing this, Hawking has chosen to spend the rest of his life settled with his family.
